Twitter content

Hi everyone

I’m continuing my series on content marketing on different platforms. We’ve looked at Instagram and Linkedin so now were going to take a look at Twitter. Content marketing on Twitter follows the same rules as other social sites; you provide valuable messages to get people hooked and to gain an audience.

However, there is a difference between Twitter and those other sites and that is 140 characters. That limit changes everything and as a result, should define how a business chooses to build their brand on Twitter. Whether they are using Twitter to generating ideas, for self-promoting or doing market research all business should centre their Twitter marketing strategy around 140 characters.

All the steps for success on twitter are the same such as setting up objectives, identifying your audience, getting content ideas but what content marketers really need to do differently with Twitter is to decide your purpose on being on Twitter. Since you are limited to 140 characters can’t produce long articles or pieces of content instead you need to use it for a different purpose as part of your larger content strategy.  The shorter messages can make it more difficult to connect with your customers or it can make that small connection all the more powerful it all depends on how you use those 140 characters.

The Method behind the tweet

It’s important that before any business begins tweeting that they decide exactly what they want to achieve on Twitter and how they are going to use each tweet to further that purpose.

  • If you want to use Twitter to drive traffic to your businesses website or a different site then your tweets should be about highlighting why they should visit that site. What does that site provides for them, what is its value to customers, what can they get there that they can’t get anywhere else.
  • You could use Twitter to call your customers towards a certain action like signing up for your newsletter or getting to take part in some competition. Again the theory behind these tweets would be convincing the customers that they will gain something by following that action.
  • Selling products on Twitter is an obvious possible purpose yet it can be a successful one if done correctly but people use social sites to socialise so sometimes throwing a lot of product promotion at them can be harmful. So this a fine line to walk.
  • Do you want to use Twitter to announce important events or sales or maybe just changes in your company; the daily going on’s. This can be very much to your advantage since it’s you going your customers a chance to be more involved with the Business. To really get to know your business and the people behind it.
  • Perhaps you want to get to know your customers and their needs a little better. So you ask questions or use Twitter polls to do a little market research or get for some feedback to help improve your business for them. (for on this see my previous post on Twitter polls or Market research links for which are at the bottom of this article)
  • Do you want to use Twitter to keep an eye on your competitors or build relationships with potentially influential businesses or people. This sort of networking is more than possible on Twitter and can be advantageous for your business and your brand.

it would be a mistake to choose only one of these also not to test all of these potential methods of marketing on Twitter just to see what your followers might respond to and therefore what is best for your company and brand. Whatever you want to achieve on this site the important to remember is the power of words, letter, characters even just 140 of them and is something that Twitter understand.

Simple Market Research

New Platform Data

Hello all

Every platform is different. What works on one site will not work on another. which is how it should be each social app must provide a unique experience. Each site must have a compelling reason why they are a site worth joining as such all markets should be aware what content will work on what sites.

In this article, I will use research conducted by different platforms to show what each platform can offer to its users and how marketers should be using these identified reasons to their advantage. I will be looking at Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

Instagram

Instagram is considered a platform of fun, relaxation, and discovery. A place where celebrities get more precedence. Users look to this site for an insider perspective and insight. The visual focus on Instagram makes it more conducive to entertainment.

As such marketers should use the platform to entertain, aspire and give exclusive personal insights to your business. All this helps to show a human and fun side to business which can attract attention by allowing people to form a personal connection to the business.

Facebook

Facebook is a platform better known for satisfying people’s need for connection. its primary appeal is considered to be the ability to connect with friends and family. Therefore it would seem to suggest that Facebook users seek more personal content such as perspectives they care about and want to discuss.

This research might suggest that Facebook is a place for sharing reactions and opinions and, as such, marketers should display emotive content designed to evoke engagement. Businesses should achieve this by finding causes or issues that matter to their followers and showing that this is important to their brand.

Twitter

Twitter is a platform used for direct communication with one’s targets audience. This site acts an everyday source of exposures which constantly allows for businesses to be discovered. More than this according to new research more than a quarter of users have gone on to make purchases because of Twitter. It is also clear that people engage with these brands by tweeting them and the responses they receive leave a positive opinion of that business.

So Twitter should be used as a way or engaging with its customer basis in the hope of encouraging more sales. This is not to say that every brand on twitter will see an immediate sale increase but there is still a large a value to active on twitter since it allows people to connect with your business.

So this new research shows the still present relevance for marketers to be on all of these platforms and use their unique audience’s to your’s brands advantage. I believe that these statistics shows, that no matter the platform or its special features, what people or users are really looking for is the personal connection behind the professional side of business. However, it’s always well worth conducting your own research as to what users respond to on different platforms

Twittering about Twitter polls

Hey all

Back in October Twitter introduced a new feature called twitter polls which enables a business to asks followers simple questions. The polls are restricted to four option answers and can only stay open for votes for 7 days but in this article, using real examples, I hope to show you the power of these polls. Regular readers will know I did a simple piece on facebook polls and how they can be used for market research. Now Twitter has added this tool to its platform as well I want to talk about how this social media market research can benefit businesses. So without further ado:

  • Polls can be adapted to weekly routines so that followers are always engaging with the page on a regular basis. Such as on Marvel Twitter page where they used the simple question of which weapon from the Asgardian comics would you want and gained over 17,00 votes, over 100 shares and over 400 likes. This can prompt regular engagement because as explained in my competitions = engagement article your followers become part of this regular loop of site traffic where they answer the question, tune back in for the results and then come back the following week for the next question.
  • Another polling idea is giving people a say in various business decisions. Amazon used a Twitter poll to ask its followers to choose what subject to cover in an upcoming event which gained them over 3,000 votes, 30 shares, 50 likes at the final result. This provides feedback  to the brand and includes followers in the social community of the company which helps to build better relationships between the business and its followers.
  • You can use twitter polls to advertise the event as the Huffington post did for the democratic debate by asking who won gaining a total of 21,961 votes, over 900 shades and over 800 likes. which was useful to them in two aspects; they gained valuable information about their followers political views and higher engagement rates on their page.
  • Another way you can use polls is to conduct basic product research. An example would be taco bell who asked followers to pick a favourite taco and gained 16,955 votes, 103 shares and 186 likes; giving them valuable data about their products. You can also use polls to advertise new products such as krispy kreme which promoted its new doughnut for the super bowl by asking followers in advance which was their doughtnut of choice which gained 2,196 votes, 26 shares and 35 likes and enabled them to choose the better performing doughnut so to speak.
  • Finally, Twitter polls can be used to put your brand out there which could increase sales by getting people thinking about your business and its products. Airbnb airline used the polls as a form of free advertising; by asking followers what their weekend plans were. This question generated over 600 votes, 15 shares, and 20 likes. So in total, that’s ruffley 630 people thinking about booking a holiday which could be very powerful to a brand.

In conclusion, these are just a few ways that the new twitter polls can be used to generate engagement and gain valuable information. Just like Facebook’s poll if used correctly can be a great tool for businesses to promote their brand and completely market research for free. Remember people; competition = engagement and when people are engaging with you there is always information to be gained.

Building your Brand with Social Media

Hey all

So today I’m here to talk about building your brand with Social media. I’m still learning on this subject so I’m just going to write what I have so far and I will update it as I go:

  • Your Brand is the one thing that identifies your business and its products such as a name, term, design or feature
  • Brand equality is the reliability and consistent transaction that happen between the customer and the business which builds loyalty and positive word of mouth which is a relationship
  • Social media gives a worldwide connection to customers. its a way to communicate with the masses and build both your brand and brand equality
  • As I’ve discussed before Social media is a tool to better connect with your customer which can only help you to build the loyalty and positive word of mouth that is needed for brand equity.
  • this equity can lead to greater brand awareness which is where more people have knowledge of your company and its reputation which then expands your customer base.
  • Then you can use social media to reach out to these new customers create a better relationship with them which cause your brand to grow.

This cycle is just one of the ways that social media can be used to help build your brand. Another way is to create detailed profiles so that your customers know you and your company or using the Hashtag search tool to find people with similar or relevant interests and reaching out to them. Social media is all about being connected and in business, those connections are so important. So as I hope I’ve briefly explained Social media can help businesses to build their brand.

Updated Twittering about Twitter

hey all

I’ve been on Twitter for an about a week now so I thought I would continue the twitter talk with just a few things I’ve picked up,

  • first of all, Using #social media may have been the smartest thing I’ve ever done. Almost instantly I have Marketing official’s and social media sites following my feed.
  • So my next step was to look into the people following me and follow some of them back. I even liked and commented on a few posts to begin building the relationship with some of the people that may become the best sources as I continue the learning process. I’ve even exchanged messages with a few, liking their facebook pages and blogs to continue the foundations across platforms
  • While I’m still getting the hang of tweeting regularly I have started to re-tweet interesting articles and I’ve saved a few to go through thoroughly later, so I can blog my thoughts.
  • I still have lots to investigate and learn though I have to say the strange twitter handles make it very difficult to find friends on there unless you specifically know their twitter name.
  • Though I have connected with my University Fiction lecturer who helping me to keep up with my writing which is a plus

Well there you have my first Twitter update I will probably do more as I learn more. Also, I hoping shortly to be making a linked-In profile so there will more news on that platform as well.

Twitter

Hi All

just a quick one today. I’ve now join twitter since the best way to about something is both theory and practice

I’ve been studying twitter as regular readers will know so now I’m going to try a little practice.

Also its just another social media platform to advertise. Share my facebook and twitter on my blog/Share my blog on Twitter and Facebook; all my platforms linked

Picking Platforms

Hey Guys

Now I’ve done a little basic research on all of the major platforms my next step is to look at the all and work out which few suit my social media needs Aka the ones I’m going to be research further.

So the best way I know too that is to sum up all my research and create a mini conclusion for each platform which I can use to pick my Platforms.

  • So first up Facebook:  So from all my research I’ve done on Facebook I’ve picked that its a platform that helps to build better relationships between your business and your customers. The idea of Facebook is that we like what we like so customers will like a business they already know and have a good relationship with. Then the business can use the page to provide useful content for that customer which the customer then interacts with forming a better relationship between them.

E.g a customer likes their local bakery’s Facebook page. That bakery uses the page to regularly post simple recipes for the customers to try at home. The customers regularly likes these posts then on one post the customers comments that they are struggling to make a cake from their friends birthday party. So the Business gets back to that customer by saying hey have you try this recipe and here is a video with step by step instruction of me making said cake let me know how it goes. This builds a strong relationship between said business and customer.

So Facebook in my Conclusion is for interacting with your current customer basis to build stronger relationships.

  • So Next up is Twitter: My research here has taught me that unlike most social media sites who can gain new customers from the process of accidental marketing (you see your friend has liked a certain business page so you like it too) Twitter works a something the call the domino effect (your post gets re-tweeted which gets re-tweet potential again and again possibly reaching hundreds of people who wouldn’t know about your page otherwise). This domino effect is much more likely to generate new people who follow your page and, therefore, your business all because they find the re-Tweeted content valuable.

So my Conclusion for Twitter that your business can have a much higher reach drawing in new potential customers so it could be argued that Twitter is a tool to create business awareness allowing your business to grow more customers.

  • Now for Linked-in, a is a business page for business people that are there advertising business, looking for businesses and working with businesses. So it’s simpler to sell yourself, your business and its products because that’s what it’s therefore. People use Linked-in to connect with businesses that are relevant to them whereas on Facebook or Twitter they might not be using the site for that purpose. if you only use Facebook or Twitter to keep in touch with your family and friends for example and don’t like pages for that reason then a businesses Facebook or Twitter page won’t be interesting to that customer. However if that person is on Linked-In and using it to connect with a business that having your company on Linked-in can be Valuable.

So my Conclusion here is that Linked-in is a worthwhile business site that can allow you to sell your business to the new and current customer on a social platform where they are looking to connect with businesses.

  • Next up Google+:  The obvious yet important thing that my research has taught me here is that Google+ is Google. simply meaning if your business is on Google+ then Google knows more about your business and that makes it easier to search for. if Google can see all the recommendations that customers are leaving about your business, the content that you are writing about your business and the data you’ve entered on Google+ about your business then they know all about your business. All this allows Google to provide relevant results to potential and current customers searching for your Business.

for example, if a customer is looking for a plumber through Google search Google is more likely to put a plumber business that they know has good reviews from customers, post regularly on Google+ about basic house repair and has all their business information on Google+ to the top of a search list over Plumber business that it doesn’t know. It’s a similar principal to asking a friend for advice on which plumber to use. The friend won’t pick a random plumber out of the yellow pages and say here use this one. They are more likely to recommend a business they know and trust. The Same is true of Google.

So my Conclusion here is since Google is the most commonly used search engine putting your business on Google+ can only improve your customers chances of finding you online. So Google+ can be considered vital to any business looking to set up an online presence.

  • and Last but not least YouTube: My research has taught that YouTube is the second biggest search engine Meaning people aren’t just using it to listen to music but also to learn. Business can use this to their advantage by providing video content that’s valuable to customers and using that to sell their business. for example, a Local florist creates videos on how to care for certain household plants with her business information such as her website, business address, phone number soon at the end of the video. People who search on YouTube about how to care for their plants then watch the video and learn about the business therefore potentially increasing their customer base and reaching out to the current customer with helpful information.

So my Conclusion about YouTube is if you can create valuable content then it can be a useful business tool however it is all about the content; people are unlike to search for what your business does or sells on YouTube that sort of information will get more success on other sites. YouTube is a tool for learning so unless you can teach your customers useful content through your video’s you are unlike to get many views and even fewer interactions.

I hope you found all that useful I sure did. Please try to remember these are my own personal conclusions, not facts but based on this conclusion I’m choosing to study; Facebook, Twitter and Google+ more. I believe these three sites are the ones that I will need to know in depth if I hope to get a Job working in social Media. I will still be posting about other social media topics but these three will be my main focus.

Facebook Vs Twitter

Hey guys

So today were going to be talking a couple of differences and similarities between Facebook and Twitter. Now I won’t be saying that one is better than the other I am just going to be taking a look at how you can use both for your online social media presence. So let’s dive right into:

  • Following Vs Liking While on the surface they might seem quite similar and it’s true in a lot of ways they are (which I will come back too), there are also differences.
  • It can be argued that when you Follow a page on Twitter you get to see all their tweets whereas with a Facebook’s timeline Facebook filters it based on what you have liked recently, what your friends are liking and what post are performing well. this is important to keep in mind when your decide which social media platform has the right tools for your business because both Facebook’s Timeline and Twitter’s Twitter feed have their advantages.
  • An important similarity for Following and liking is that it’s a small commitment on the behalf of your customers that allows you to keep them updated and connect with you more effectively.
  • Big differences I’ve noticed between Facebook and Twitter appears in the form of accidental Marketing. Those of you who regularly read my blog will know accidental marketing is where a business that your friend likes, comments on or shares cause you to like them too making you a new customer. Now as I’ve explained on facebook this tends to rare since we Like what we like but my Twitter source (which I posted in the previous blog entry) made the point that on Twitter people regular re-tweet other businesses tweets which lead the domino effect I also explained which creates a much great reach for your tweets then a facebook post soon Twitter it could be argued accidental marketing is much less accidental.
  • Regular readers will know I’ve made the case that Facebook is a tool to better connect with existing customers so perhaps since Twitter can lead to a great reach perhaps it can be said that Twitter is a way of expanding your customer base whereas Facebook is a way of improving. Again there are merits to both expansion and improvement by no means to does it make one better than the other it’s all about what tool is more useful to your business
  • Both platforms allow for both simple competitor and Market research which always useful for businesses, both give you the opportunity to connect with your customers on a more social level and on both pages it’s good to be consistent and positive with your posting.

So I hope this little post has helped you to identify Some of the differences between Twitter and Facebook and how to use them for business.

Twittering about Twitter

Hey all

Today I’m moving away from Facebook for a while to explore some of the other methods of advertising your business online. So first up I’m going to look at Twitter.

Ok so here is my first Source for learning about advertising your business on Twitter:

I will talk more about the actual source later but for now I Just want to talk about a few good things i picked up for the video:

  • Following some one on Twitter is Simple commitment that allows people to connect with one another; so businesses can follow each other, Customers can follow your business all with very little effort on their part.
  • 72% more people are likely to purchase from a business the already follow (This is quite similar we like what we like, I will be doing a Facebook Vs Twitter post at some point)
  • Twitter is a really good source of Accidental marketing, When people re-tweet your status it shares your tweet to all their followers then some of their followers might re-tweet it giving your tweet a much further reach. This reach could draw in new followers, This is called the domino effect.
  • # The Hash Tag is a way to attract a relevant field to your post for example if you use the #Fandoms anyone talk about Fandoms will be draw to your tweet. its also a good search tool since if some searches the Fandom you tweet will come up, so its quite similar to a tag word.
  • its well worth following your competitors on Twitter to keep up with them, see what they are doing for their customers that you might be able to adapt to yours. so Twitter can be a good tool for competitor research.
  • A good way to form relationships on twitter is to connect with the people who re-tweet your tweets. Form relationships with them and thanks them for the re-tweet. This is a good way to connect with potential and current customers (since the people who are re-tweeting you are likely to be people who already know your business)
  • So you should be tweeting somewhere between 3-7 times per day and its well worth think about when people are likely to be on twitter to see your tweets, between 1-3 o’clock is usually good and also in the evenings.
  • be consistent with your tweets, if your posting regularly then you will stick in peoples heads as someone whose tweet they read often which is very beneficial in business since if people think about your business they are more likely to buy from your business.

well this is just the start of my exploration of the world, of Twitter but I think its a good one. This Video covered not only the business side of Twitter but also a few basic points about Twitter like how to use the # to your advantage and also some more basic Social media points like sticking to the content of your page and not diverting attention from what you regular tweet about. So Thanks a lot, Twitter goddess (Reference will make sense if you watch the Video) and I will post again soon

Intro to My Journey

Hey People

This is a story of a how an active Fandom admin transforms herself into a successful Social media representative for Business (Or at least, I hope it is)

I’ve been an admin on facebook now for over two years and I’ve really fallen in love with the whole world of social media. I will talk more about my work on facebook in a different post right now I’m just giving you an idea of what this Blog will be about.

Well have been searching for a career in life for some time and as my mother always told me its best to do what you love so I’m trying to create myself into someone who does social media for businesses. which as the title of my blog should suggest is going to be quite a task. While I’m computer savvy, have a degree in creative writing and as I said a Very active poster on facebook, the business world of social media is very different.

so I’m going to be posting regularly about the things I already know from Facebook, my Writing degree but also the new stuff I’m teaching myself like, how to use platforms other than facebook, Basic terms translations, useful tips and Video’s for others out there interested in the Same ideas and Generally how the whole learning process is going.

So to strip it down to the bare bones this is my Mission to explore the strange worlds of Social media, to seek out New Knowledge and adapt old information and to Boldly try what I’ve never tried before. (Yes I made a star trek references; Fandom geek remember)
